It seems Varun Dhawan is likely to team up with Kriti Sanon for the Bollywood adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's novel 'Half Girlfriend' which will be produced by Mohit Suri, Chetan Bhagat and Ekta Kapoor.
A source close to the development said, "Ekta has already bought the rights to Chetan's book and made up her mind about casting Varun in the film."
The source further added, "Ekta feels that Kriti is one of the most promising newcomers around and fits the character well. And while there is buzz that Alia Bhatt was approached for the role, all speculation went out of the window when she broke up with Varun. She has decided to cast Kriti Sanon instead."
Tanveer Bookwala, CCO, Balaji Motion Pictures said, “The film is only halfway done and will take three more months to complete. As of now, we have not approached any stars.”
When asked if they were considering Varun, he added, “Varun and Balaji have delivered a successful film in the past. So when we make films, we do think of him. But we will only cast someone who we think will fit the role perfectly.”
He confirmed that the film would go on floors next year. Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon share screen space in Rohit Shetty's 'Dilwale' which also stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. It is slated for a Christmas release.
