Amitabh Bachchan starrer 'Piku' box office collections did not get off to a good start as opening day's footfalls reached just 40%.
Unfortunately, for the Amitabh Bachchan And Deepika Padukone starrer Piku is facing stiff competition for previous week's release Gabbar Is Back, which stars Akshay Kumar. The Sunny Leone starrer Kuch Kuch Locha Hai has showed no indication it will rise as a rival to the public's purse. (Bollywood Hungama)
The Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan starrer ‘Piku‘ box office collections opened to a good enough start at Rs 5.32 crore on day 1, but nothing that the mega star Big B was once used to. While Amitabh Bachchan’s dominance of the box office is no longer what it once used to be, still he has retained his pull power to a degree and that enabled the movie to raise its day 2 collections to Rs 8.70 crore for a total of Rs 14.02 crore (domestic). If the foreign take was added too, the collections rise to Rs 21.18 crore.
Piku is directed by Shoojit Sircar.
‘Piku’ has been getting a lot of good reviews and even during its shooting it received widespread publicity as the producers gave the media almost a free hand to click Amitabh Bachchan as he traipsed across the streets of cities while shooting for the film. However, even then, the opening day’s footfalls managed to reach only 40% – this was much lower than that of Akshay Kumar starrer Gabbar Is Back which topped out at 75% a week earlier.
