Piku: Lessons learnt from the film

Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan-starrer Piku, that released this week, has opened to rave reviews. The film is a slice-of-life story and makes for an interesting watch. But trust Shoojit Sircar to lace the film with enough 'feels' such that the audience derives much more than mere entertainment from it. Besides the enjoyable banter and the general sense of bonhomie, the film packs in a powerful message without being preachy even once. It is a film that manages to stay with you. Here's the lessons that we have learnt from the beautiful, poetic story of the mismatched...

Age is just a number

Amitabh Bachchan as Bhaskar Banerjee transforms from a hypochondriac to a man who wants to enjoy every bit of his life. Just like his off-screen persona, Amitabh's Bhaskar has a lot of lessons to offer. He is fiercely opinionated and judgmental but is also open to suggestions. This makes him extremely endearing. And when he cruises along on a cycle through the streets of Kolkata, he seems to be laughing at the concept of age and ageing. Definitely a lesson here!

The line “to have sex outside marriage...” from the famous My Choice video may sound bad to others but Deepika Padukone says she never intended to promote infidelity in a relationship through the short film.

Deepika, 29, who finally broke her silence about the much-debated online video on women empowerment, said the larger meaning of the documentary was ignored.

“Mixed reactions did not bother me. It was a bit disappointing to know that certain lines were pulled out of context and blown completely out of proportion and we missed the larger point that the film was trying to make...

Piku - When motions and emotions met on a page

Juhi Chaturvedi grew up with a hypochondriac grandfather who would discuss his ailments with his doctor in great detail."And dining table conversations revolved around motions and constipation was discussed 24x7," reminisces the story, screenplay and dialogue writer of Shoojit Sircar's upcoming family drama, Piku.

Amitabh Bachchan's character in the film, Bhashkar Banerjee, a quirky and cranky Bengali babu who is visibly unhappy if his health reports come up 'normal', is modelled on Juhi's dadaji, a well read gentleman who with advancing age and the lingering shadow of death, became obsessed with his health and gave the film its tongue in-cheek catchline, Insaan ka emotion uske motion se juda hota hai."That for me is the truth of life. If you are unhappy inside the loo, you will never be happy outside it.The root to most of our problems is the stomach. If the gastro-intestinal track is working fine, then you're usually in good shape and spirits," she reasons.
