Actress Mallika Sherawat, who has been credited with an item number in the Kannada film Preeti Yeke Bhoomi Melide with Prem, is becoming quite the self-proclaimed women's rights activist.
Apparently appalled at the recent news of a young couple from Haryana murdered in what is seen as an honour killing, Mallika took to her micro-blogging page to voice her anger. This has to STOP! Honor Killing still persists in the 21st century? Here's why i think it's shameful!," she wrote, along with a video link to her view on the issue. Among other things, the actress said, "It is shameful that the families of a young man and woman killed them. They had not broken any law or insulted anyone. Their fault was that they fell in love. They just dreamt of living their lives together. They even got married. But were still murdered. This has to stop. This is the 21st century."
This apart, Mallika is currently busy with the show The Bachelorette. And while it is often speculated that she will make a comeback to south cinema, she was last seen in a special number with Simbu in the Tamil film Osthi.
