"We are going ahead with sequel to Kahaani" - Vikram Malhotra

Sujoy Ghosh is the man to watch out for. The filmmaker wants to remake his Kahaani in several languages. While Tamil, Telugu and even English versions of the year's sleeper blockbuster are on the anvil, we hear the sequel to Kahaani is now a throbbing reality.

Secretly unknown to the world, Ghosh has been feverishly penning the sequel. And now just when the English, Tamil, Telugu versions of Kahaani are in the pipeline, producers Viacom 18 and Ghosh are all set to start the sequel. And they want to waste no time in carrying the franchise forward.

In fact after Viacom 18 heard of proposed projects in 3 languages of Kahaani, they immediately got in touch with film's co-producer Jayanthilal Gadha to discuss how the remakes would affect the sequel.

"Only after Viacom and Gadha were convinced that the sequel would in no way be affected by the remakes did the process of selling remake rights go forward. Viacom was very clear on the issue. The sequel should not and must not be affected by the remakes," says a source very close to the project.

However a tug 'o' war between the remakes and the sequel is currently on.

Says a source close to the project, "Sujoy who is close to Aditya Chopra and Yashraj Films has been asked to be closely associated with the English-language version of Kahaani. But with Sujoy completely committed to Kahaani 2 and consumed in writing it, his chances of participating in any of the Kahaaniremakes is very slim. Viacom 18 are very clear on the issue. They want the sequel to not get affected by the remakes. Sujoy is busy writing the sequel and has cracked an idea."

While details on Kahaani 2 are awaited two components have been locked in by Viacom 18: Vidya Balan and Sujoy Ghosh. The script we understand, will move out of Kolkata and take Vidya's character to a completely new setting.

While further details are awaited, Vikram Malhotra of Viacom 18 admitted, "We are going ahead with the sequel to Kahaani. That's all I can reveal at the moment."

Are Akshay-Sonakshi upset over Joker release flip-flop?

The signs are ominous. Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha haven't spoken a single word about the release date flip-flop of Joker. At the time when they should be celebrating the continued run of Rowdy Rathore, they are finding themselves in the middle of a situation where they are hearing different plans every other week.

"They are definitely upset with the way different announcements have been made during last couple of weeks", informs a source, "It is apparent that there is added vigour due to Akshay-Sonakshi being a hot pair after the success of Rowdy Rathore. However there has to be certain stability around the plans; after all they too have to formulate their schedules accordingly."

They have a point here because the biggest hurdle expected during the promotion of Joker is the lack availability of the lead pair itself. Reason being that both Akshay and Sonakshi would be off to the Gulf for the shooting of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2.

"The entire cast and crew of Once Upon A Time.... would be away from the country in not just August but even early part of September", the source adds, "There would be no one around for the entire month to promote the film. In the times when road shows and city tours are a must, especially for a film like Joker which needs an added push due to its unique narrative and a different genre, the very fact that a release date has been chosen when Akshay and Sonakshi won't be in the country to talk about the film is very disappointing."

This is where September release plan still made some sense at least since the actors would have returned just in time to at least give one week to the film's active promotion. However as things stand today, it may all happen on a remote basis now, provided they get time out of their hectic shooting schedule.

Says a source attached to the film on condition of anonymity, "If neither Akshay nor Sonakshi are in town, are they expecting second leads Shreyas Talpade and Minissha Lamba to front face the film's promotion? Okay, so the film has been sold at a win-win price of under Rs.40 crores but that doesn't mean one should be content just by recovering it. It is such a well made film by Shirish and definitely requires to be nurtured so that it can flourish. If the situation would have been handled a little more sensitively and Akshay-Sonakshi were available, the film would have definitely gained further impetus."

Stop Calling us Bollywood

It’s not a Hollywood rip-off, and not about dancing around trees anymore. So stop calling it Bollywood, demand noted filmmakers on the occasion of 100 years of Indian Cinema. The latest to call for a ban on the term is Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, who directed acclaimed films  such as Rang De Basanti and Delhi 6. “It makes me angry. We were never Bollywood. We have lost our identity. We are the Hindi film industry and I have a lot of pride in that,” says the filmmaker.

As a desperate attempt, Mehra is even making a documentary titled ‘Bollywood: The Greatest Love Story Ever Told.’ “I was getting fed up with the idea of being called Bollywood. The irony of the title is that I named the documentary Bollywood,” he said.

Filmmaker Subhash Ghai supports him: “We must stop using this name — it sounds satirical. It’s best called Indian or Hindi cinema.” Director Vikram Bhatt agrees, “It’s high time!”

Actor Anupam Kher strongly feels the word has a colonial undertone. “It is a word coined by Westerners for their convenience. Fitrat mein ghulami hai.” Vicky Donor actor Ayushmann Khurana says, “‘Bollywood’ is very uncool. We have our own identity.”

This is not the first set of demands for scrapping the term. “Hollywood se bollywood naam nikla, this is nt the name of our industry. Don’t kno whr this ridiculous name has cm frm n got stuck. It makes us look like chamchas ... call it any thing but nt boll... (sic),” actor Salman Khan had tweeted earlier.

Many from the film fraternity even suggested alternatives. Amitabh Bachchan came up with FI: Film Industry, and InFI: Indian Film Industry, Riteish Deshmukh thought of “Hi-Fi, for Hindi Film industry,” and Saif Ali Khan said it should just be ‘Indian Film Industry’.

Others such as musician AR Rahman, filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, actors Gul Panag and Dia Mirza also continue to stand against the term even as some argue that it has caught on and is not offensive in any way.

Origin of the term
The term ‘Bollywood’ first came into use the 1970s, when India overtook America as the world’s largest film producer. Credit for the term has been claimed by several people, including lyricist, filmmaker and scholar Amit Khanna, and journalist Bevinda Collaco. ‘Bollywood’ was inspired by ‘Tollywood’, the name that was used to refer to the cinema of West Bengal. Dating back to 1932, ‘Tollywood’ was the earliest Hollywood-inspired name. With inputs from PTI and HTC

Ajay Devgn denies cheating distributor

Ajay Devgn has denied the allegations of cheating a Nagpur-based distributor over the all India theatrical rights for his upcoming film Bol Bachchan

The story goes that Nagpur-based distributor Appu Wadhwani filed a civil case against Ajay and Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd, the producers of Bol Bachchan, in a local court alleging that the producers went in for a deal with another company by dishonouring the one they struck with him last year, for the film's all-India theatrical rights. He moved to court asking for a stoppage on the film's release.

Reportedly, the makers of Bol Bachchan had entered into an agreement with Appu Wadhwani of Hira Laxmi Amusement Private Ltd, for all-India theatre rights last year for Rs. 53.20 crore. Appu had paid a token money of Rs 1.01 crore. But the deal fell through. The producers later entered into a fresh deal with Fox Star Studios.

Ajay, who is the co-producer of Bol Bachchan, does not want to comment on this issue as the matter is in court but he did clarify that he has not cheated anybody. He further stated that the matter is between Appu and Ashtavinayak as both have filed cases against each other and he is not involved in anyway.

Bol Bachchan stars Ajay Devgn along with Abhishek Bachchan, Asin Thottumkal and Prachi Desai. Directed by Rohit Shetty, the comedy is slated for a July 6 release.

I am close to SRK, says Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra who is busy promoting her new film ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’ along with her co-star Shahid Kapoor comes clean on her alleged affair with Shahrukh Khan. Piggy Chops said that false rumor does upset Priyanka and it disturbs her peace of mind. When her link-up with Shahrukh Khan spread far and wide, Priyanka preferred to keep silence rather giving any justification. Many of her close pals stopped exchanging pleasantries with the actress.
All through these days, the actress maintained silence over the issue but finally Priyanka broke her silence and spoke in length about her relationship with Shahrukh Khan. Talking to media, she said, “I am close to SRK, but then I'm close to many other actors too. I start working on my other films after these promos, so it's a very busy year (ahead)."
False rumor does affect her to the core. "Yes, it affects me. I still feel bad when unnecessary things are discussed. Think from a regular girl's perspective. How would she feel if her talking to guys is questioned? If she is generally chatting up with a boy and it is assumed each time that she will get married to him-it is just annoying," said depressed Priyanka.
Priyanka was not only linked with Shahrukh but she was also said to have an affair with Shahid Kapoor. Things are on the right track now and Gauri Khan who was highly upset with Priyanka over the entire love story and stopped interacting with her has now mended their differences and they became friends again. Karan Johar and Farhan Akhtar intervened and sort out the issue.

Vidya Balan is a fabulous actress, Preity Zinta

Bubbly actress Preity Zinta is all set for a new professional innings. Her debut production ‘Ishq In Paris’ is all set to hit the threate in September and buzz is that the beautiful actress has also signed two more films. After taking a brief break from work, Preity is again in the limelight. She was recently spotted at the launch of diet expert Pooja Makhija's book "Eat Delete".
At the event the actress was questioned related to size zero which is very much in trend now-a-days. Supporting curvaceous Vidya Balan, Preity said,  "I think she (Vidya Balan) is a fabulous actress. What's wrong with her? There is always a rule - it takes one to lead and rest to follow. The choice you have to make is whether you are a leader or a follower," Preity said here Wednesday at the launch of diet expert Pooja Makhija's book "Eat Delete".
"If there is one size zero and if 10 people want to become size zero, it's a different thing. If one is a size 12 or 10, and people want to be size 10, it's a different thing," she added.
Vidya was seen flaunting her curves in blockbuster 'The Dirty Picture'.
"I think Vidya Balan is beautiful, she is gorgeous and she is a fabulous actor," added Preity.
About the hype encircling size zero, Preity said: "For normal people, it is very unfair to keep saying 'size zero is beautiful'. Being overweight is not good because it is bad for your health. (But) there is no such thing that this is the only size."
"I feel really bad for the normal people because their pressure is - 'If you eat this diet, you will look like her', which is really wrong, you can't look like anyone else," Preity added.
